The buyer already knows what they need and is checking whether you make it. These queries convert because the person searching has a bill of materials open in another tab.
Comparison queries sit in the middle. "Hydraulic vs pneumatic actuator for food plant" or "die cast vs sand cast aluminum housing". The buyer is deciding between approaches, not brands. This is where technical articles beat product pages, because a product page cannot answer a question that spans two product categories.
Problem queries are the widest and the cheapest to win. "Why does my conveyor belt track to one side", "pump cavitation symptoms", "crusher liner wear too fast". Nobody is buying from that page today. But the maintenance engineer who reads your answer remembers your name when the replacement order goes out.
In practice we map every keyword to one of these three families before writing a single word. If a keyword does not fit a family, it usually belongs to a competitor's brand name and you should skip it.
The Four Page Types That Win Industrial Rankings
Four page types cover almost every industrial query worth ranking for. Build them in this order.
1. Product and part pages
One page per product family, not per SKU, unless the SKUs differ in ways buyers search for. A product page needs the specification table, the materials, the operating envelope, the certifications the product actually holds, the lead time, and a downloadable drawing or datasheet. Search engines cannot read your PDF catalog as well as they can read HTML, so the specs belong on the page, not only in the download.
2. Application pages
Application pages answer "do you understand my plant?". A pump manufacturer with a page on chemical dosing in water treatment will outrank a competitor with a better pump and no application content, because the buyer searches by application, not by product category. These pages also give you something to link to from technical articles.
3. Technical articles
This is where problem queries get answered. A technical article is not a blog post about company news. It is a 1,200 to 2,000 word explanation of a failure mode, a selection method, or a standard, written by someone who has stood next to the machine. 4. Comparison pages

Technical Foundations: Crawl, Speed, Structure
None of the content above matters if Google cannot crawl your catalog. - Product pages behind JavaScript. If the specification table only renders after a script runs, some crawlers and most AI answer engines will see an empty page. Server-render the specs.

Industrial link building is not a volume game. Ten links from trade associations, university research pages, distributor sites and industry publications will outperform a hundred directory listings. The reason is simple: a link is a vote, and a vote from a site that covers your industry is worth more than a vote from a site that covers everything.
Three sources work reliably for manufacturers. First, your own supply chain: distributors, integrators and partners who already list your products. Search Console is the only performance data source that comes from Google itself, which makes it the one to trust. Two habits keep it honest.
First, look at queries, not just totals. A click increase driven by one branded query is not organic growth. Sort by impressions and look for queries where you rank between position 8 and position 20. Those are the pages one good content update away from page one.
Second, segment by country and device. Industrial buyers on mobile are often checking a spec in a meeting, not researching a purchase. If mobile impressions are high and mobile clicks are near zero, the page is probably too slow or the spec table is unreadable on a phone.
